German opposition in favour of ambitious and unconditional climate goals of Germany and the EU
The German Social Democratic Party proposed a motion that Germany campaigns for a EU27-wide unconditional GHG reduction of 30% until 2020 at the next climate conferences and that the EU takes a strong leading role in order to achieve an ambitious and legally binding climate treaty until the end of the year, i.e. until the climate conference in Mexico, to campaign for that the other developed countries commit to GHG-reduction targets that will enable the 2°-goal, to campaign for that the EU makes a concrete offer until the climate talks in Bonn in June this year to the developing countries of 30 Billion € to finance adaptation and mitigation strategies and to encourage the US Government to pass an ambitious national climate protection bill in order to boost the credibility of the American policy.
The proposal further calls on the German Government to renew the decision to an unconditional reduction of the German GHG emissions of 40% by 2020 and by 80 – 95% by 2050 compared to 1990.
